Job Summary
This Business Development Executive position is primarily responsible for selling a broad range of Design Engineering Services to OEM customers in the western US. The candidate must live on the West Coast for access to current customers and building new relationships with potential customers in the western region. This position will report to the VP of Design Engineering located in Rochester, MN.

Business Development Executive directly support company revenue and profit growth by identifying and building new customer relationships (or sustaining existing relationships), clearly understanding customer current and future needs, and executing selling strategies to meet those needs. Regularly responsible for forecasting and internal reporting of sales activity to company executives and will be measured to sales targets. Responsible for generating revenue by identifying leads, securing RFQs and presenting proposals to customers. Provide strong team leadership to program management teams to ensure internal and external customers’ needs are met.

Benchmark Electronics, Inc. is in the business of manufacturing electronics and providing services to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of telecommunication equipment, computers and related products for business enterprises, video/audio/entertainment products, industrial control equipment, testing and instrumentation products and medical devices. The services that we provide are commonly referred to as electronics manufacturing services (EMS). We offer our customers comprehensive and integrated design and manufacturing services, from initial product design to volume production and direct order fulfillment. We provide specialized engineering services including product design, printed circuit board layout, prototyping and test development.

Qualifications / Education / Experience
  • Investigate and understand relevant markets and draw conclusions on market data gathered and use those conclusions to identify specific sales and market opportunities.
  • Communicates effectively with customer(s) and with Company manufacturing teams and assists in preparation to negotiate, manage, and update customer contracts.
  • Provides for effective coordination of all sales activities with cognizant of support functions throughout the Company to assure optimum utilization of manpower and cooperation in the attainment of project objectives.
  • Supports management team as needed with building customers’ relationships and business development, with forecasting and pricing strategies, with ensuring profitability, and with meeting business unit objectives.
  • Prepares and presents quarterly sales forecasts and programs review presentations which address performance metrics and report.
  • Assists other team members as needed to ensure customers’ needs are met.

  • 5+ years Engineering sales experience
  • 3+ years in a leadership role mentoring others in program sales tasks and concepts
  • Ability to make a good first impression and possess excellent professional communication skills, verbal and written and ability to interact with abroad set of business and presenting, both over the phone, and in person
  • Proven track record of successful profitable sales in large complex accounts and consistently meets or exceeds quotas for sales and new product growth
  • Strong analytical and conceptual sales/marketing skills
  • Effective organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Effective negotiation and analytical skills
  • Effective protection of Benchmark confidential information

4 year technical degree strongly preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
