Job Summary
System Administrator (IT Technician) with our Design Engineering Group.

Location: Position can be located in Winona or Rochester, MN

The Benchmark Design Engineering Team has an opening for a System Administrator to be the focal point for CAD System Administration for electrical and mechanical design tools. This role is integral to the support of our product development, automation and test development teams.

Essential Functions and Competencies
  • Deploy tool licensing and maintain CAD software on BEI servers and the development systems.
  • Works with the engineering teams to install software and maintain development PCs.
  • Develop and deploy inventory records and CAD tool use monitoring strategies for utilization reporting.
  • Works directly with tool vendors to optimize price and configuration of Benchmark systems.
  • Coordinates with engineering teams and tool vendors for incremental training needs and deploying new features.
  • Works with the engineering teams to maintain the CAD libraries.
  • Works with the engineering teams to optimize product data storage, organization and structure.
  • Works with customers to help setup access for data sharing and vaulting between BEI and customer for development projects.
  • Help to setup and maintain PDM tools (PDMWorks, PDMLink, and Agile)
  • Works with other BEI divisions to align engineering tool requirements and help other divisions with CAD data translation questions.

General Design Tech Duties.

  • Demonstrates an aptitude to understand design and fabrication methods and participate in design activities of customer products, automation solutions and/or test solutions using various applications and technologies.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of electronics principles.
  • Interprets basic prints to build cables, electrical panels, and machine wiring.
  • Recommends alternative design solutions using sound engineering principles and techniques.
  • Demonstrates a basic working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: mathematics, electronics, mechanisms, CAD design.
  • Demonstrates basic problem solving skills and the ability to make sound technical recommendations.

Qualifications / Education / Experience
  • Makes basic design related computations in support of design developments
  • Writes design specifications (requirement specifications, design specifications, test specifications etc.)
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of the use of standard lab equipment such as Digital Multi-Meters, Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Follows engineering design methodology processes.
  • Follows project plan and reports project status to leadership
  • Completes design documentation (including schematics, BOMs) for various design service deliverables resulting in a product or tooling that supports the manufacturing environment, (if applicable), to meet both the customers’ requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support groups’ requirements.
  • Interfaces and communicates with internal customers regarding project requirements and status.
  • Demonstrates ability to create basic design documentation applying basic knowledge of industry standard practices.
  • Assists with quoting and scheduling activities required to complete the design service deliverables.
  • Processes engineering change orders.
  • Interacts with vendors to order components and ensure proper fabrication of outsourced components.
  • Coordinates process development and improvement
  • Communicates technical challenges and works with peers to implement solutions
  • Assists in the analysis and selection of appropriate components for customer products.
  • Demonstrates use of industry panel design/build standards for projects that involve new electrical panels to support technical services.
  • Capable of using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software (both electrical and mechanical applications) to support process automation services.
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of the use of standard lab equipment such as Digital Multi-Meters, Oscilloscope, & logic analyzers
  • Develops and follows project plan and reports status to leadership.
  • Demonstrates ability to create and check other’s detailed design documentation applying knowledge of industry standard practices.
  • Coordinates quoting and scheduling activities required to complete the design service deliverable.
  • Communicates with customer technical personnel regarding technical issues.


•3 to 5 year experience •Mastery of advanced applications/technologies

•2 year technical degree in electronics or Information Systems is required.
